Unofficial Moe Mascot Aoshima Megu Seeks Anime Crowd Funding

When last we reported about Aoshima Megu, an original character designed to promote the local economy of Shima City in Mie Prefecture, it was because the cute ama diver had landed in hot water with the locals who found her design too sexy, ultimately resulting in the city withdrawing her official sponsorship. But fear not, gentle readers, because now it seems that instead of being abandoned the scrappy mascot is experiencing a resurgence in an unofficial capacity. There is currently a crowd funding effort on Makuake to produce a short, animated preview video starring Aoshima Megu. The project aims to raise 4 million yen (about $36,000 US).

At the time of this writing, the project is a little over halfway to its goal, with 67 days remaining. Pledges range in value from 2000 - 100,000 yen for individuals and from 100,000 - 300,000 yen for corporations, with pledge prizes including such offerings as digital downloads of the anime PV, drawings, clear file posters, and 1/6 scale mini-bust statues of Aoshima Megu.
